Hi Cheryl
Welcome. You've done well; congratulations on the weight
loss and the lab improvements. You're certainly heading in
the right direction.
I don't know Fortamet so I looked it up on www.rxlist.com .
It appears to be extended release Metformin. So 1000mg is
exactly the same dose as 2x500mg metformin, just extended
release.
Were you having side effects from the standard metformin?
Just wondering why the change was made.
I'd suggest a couple of things to experiment with. First,
try a late night snack. What you eat may not be terribly
important - experiment. People here range from a glass of
red wine, through pure protein or fat (say, cheese), to my
own snack of muesli, nuts, psyllium and milk. So, no
guarantees but a little experimentation may give some
improvement.
The other possibility is to change the timing of your
Fortamet dose, or going back to the metformin so you could
try splitting it into a morning and bedtime dose to see if
that helps. You would need to discuss any changes like that
with your doctor.
Have you read this explanation of dawn phenomenon:

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
